Thanked: 235Putting razors into storage
I'm going to be going away for about a month. I'm planning on taking a DE with me and maybe just one straight. The rest of my razors are going to be left at my house in Bangkok. I plan on giving all my razors a good coating of oil, but what would be the best oil to use. I would prefer to use something from around the house instead of having to buy something. The main things I can think of using are baby oil, cooking oil, or vasaline. Would any of these be useful for protecting a razor from corosion?
Any advice would be great.
Cheers.

light oil
I found that mineral oil sometimes leaves stains on the blade so for storage I just use light gun oil that I apply with a Q-tip . After I take them out of storage I clean the oil off with an alcohol soaked patch. Works for me.

I'm not really sure about what type of oil, but I would also urge you to try to find a dry (non-humid, or arid) enviornment). Eliminating humidity should help lots.

Thanked: 235Today my new old DE razor turned up in the mail. So tomorrow I will start practicing with that. As for my straight razors I have put them into storage. They have been coated with petrolium gelly. When I get back from my holiday I will soak them in soapy water and clean them with a tooth brush.

For what it's worth, baby oil is just scented mineral oil and petroleum jelly is basically a thicker mineral oil.
I use mineral oil on mine and have never noticed anything negative. The petroleum jelly you used should do you fine.
