Thanked: 0Dorko (Dorten & Co.) Razors
This is my first post and I would like to start off by saying hello to everyone in the community, which I have been following, if not participating in, for quite some time.
What prompted my first post was the following eBay item: 180332024066
For which I have been sorely outbidden.
I have never had or even encountered a Dorko razor before and therefore have a few questions about them:
1. How good are they?
2. Are they still produced? (I gathered no, but wanted to make sure)
2. What is their price range?
4. Was that razor above worth that price? (simply cant resist asking)
5. What are considered the higher-end Dorko razor models? (as I read somewhere that there are indeed lower end Dorko razors).
Thank you for any and all information. And once again hello!

Thanked: 7351. They are a quality brand
2. No
3. Various price range, as any razor, DOrkos sometimes get real crazy on the Bay $350 and up...
4. It was worth it to whomever purchased it!
5. Can't answer that
I can tell you, however, that If I were a fan of 8/8 full hollows, and wanted a Dorko, this is where I would go!
Damn, that's tasty!

I really don't have any answers for you, since I have never owned a Dorko. But, I thought it was very telling in the sellers description when he wrote:"As you can check in the pictures there are also the original box,the seal and a certificate of warranty.Razor comes very sharp, ready for shave.A great addiction for your collection" I'm not sure whether this was a typo or a Freudian slip. Since he calls himself razorcollectorone, I suspect the latter.

First, welcome to SRP. Lot's of great information on this site. Read the wiki and the posts. And don't be afraid to ask questions.
I don't own a Dorko, but have heard nothing but good things about them. Unless you are independently wealthy and don't care how much you spend, I highly recommend looking at something else for your first razor. You will find many excellent razors in the classifieds for lots less. They are not junk razors being dumped by our members. They are good values at very reasonable prices. Our members have reputations to protect. Ensure that it is shave ready (it will be stated in the ad if it is shave ready or not). Kenrup (a member here) also sells great starter kits at very attractive prices. You can also check our great vendors (look in the vendors forum). Where ever you decide to buy make sure it is shave ready, i.e. it has been professionally honed. If you don't your face will pay a very painful price.
Besides the razor you will need the following at a minimum to start:
1. Strop (hanging is best, but a paddle will work)
2. Shave soap/cream (personal choice)
3. Brush (from under $15 to obscene prices)
At some point you should also get a barbers hone and/or a pasted strop.
If you have any questions about these please don't hesitate to ask.Last edited by dward; 03-19-2009 at 10:16 AM.

Thanked: 37I got the twin brother to this one from the same guy a few weeks back. It is a very good razor. The razor was in new condition and as he advertised. I don't think I would spend that kind of money on a first razor though.

I have 3 Dorko's and they are all great razors. Dorko was a razor sold initially to the trade in Germany the way Double Duck was the same here and the fame spread from that.

I have quite a few Dorko's, and I consider them among my best shavers. Highly recommended.
I've bought from that seller before, in fact it was a NOS Dorko. That guy's got some amazing stuff up his sleeve. Mostly Dorko's.

Thanked: 0Thank you for the great replies and all the imput on Dorkos.
@Seraphim: Thank you for pointing me in that direction, I havent been to the site for a while and those Dorkos on there look great.
@dward: Thank you for the great advice and the warm welcome! Im not actually a begginer shaver. Have been shaving with a straigh for over a year now with not bad but certainly not expensive razors the whole time and now want to upgrade at least a couple of my razors. Having recently bough a Firodur recently was thinking of a Dorko and wanted to gather more info.
@CraigJ: Thank you for the heads up. I had a look at the sellers feedback and indeed he had sold a twin of this razor for $190, which seems a more appropriate price, especially coupled with what is being offered on the Shavingshop.com
@thebigspendur + bpave777: Thank you for the great insights and opinions. I will now definately be on the lookout for a Dorko. If I may ask how much, on average, did you pay for your Dorkos?

I'd say most of mine averaged about $120+. There were a couple that were in the $200 range.
There are a few more I'd like to see in my collection. All in due time.
Lately I've been a bit more focused on Swedish Blondes...um...razors I mean.
