    Default Info request

    Hello all,

I have recently come upon two razors and I was hoping that someone could help with the ID.

    1) N.D. & C. Co Ltd; "National" is on the face of the blade; 5/8 spike point. No other distinguishing marks.

    2) Fried. Wilh. Engels 5/8 RH; "LEADER" is on the face-side of the tang, "F.W.Engels Soligen-GR. Germany" is on the back of the tang along with the trade mark that appears to be two young girls playing. It also has metal end caps on both ends of the scales that say "Leader".

I checked the Wiki and could not find any info.

    Thanks for the help.

    Tom

I don't know about the first one, but FWE razors are held in high regard. The FWE Special is the model I've heard about the most, but I would have to assume their other blades should also be great shavers.

I could find no information on the N D and C National razor in Goin"s Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings, or the Standard Guide To Razors. I have had a few Engels Leader razors, however, and they have all been very nice shavers, and easy to hone. Some pictures would be nice!

"National" razors were made by "National Razor Manufacturing Co."(1919-1921) and "The National Razor MFG.Co.Ohio"(1921-1923).

Honed them up yesterday. I must say I will have to do some more work on the National but the Leader honed up VERY nicely and was a fantastic shave! I will post some pics later today. Thanks again for the help !

The figures stamped on the tang of my FW Engels "LUCKY" 6/8 appear to be that of a woman shaving, or preparing to shave, a man. The stamp is very small so it's hard to tell for sure.

I was extremely LUCKY to find it for the price I did and am constantly on the lookout for a good deal on another.

My FWE is an excellent shaver and the brand seems to universally well-regarded here, so my advise is to snag it if it's in good condition. (*Edit: Just saw that you have it already and like it, oh well.*)
