    Default New restoration

This was an ebay razor (nice and cheap). It is a 5/8 Henry Sears & son Carnival Special Barber. I have another Henry Sears that is a great shaver so I thought this one would probably be the same. Well I didn't really take any before pics but I did include a pic of the old scales, plastic wood grain. The blade was in good shape just a little rust and some pitting but it polished out nice and I honed the nicks out of the blade. I took a great edge. The Scales are one piece formed out of Tigerwood and coated in tung oil. I had a little trouble cutting out the center but overall it turned out a whole lot better than I expected. I plan on using the razor in the morning so I guess we will see how it shaves. Being my first restoration I am very pleased with it just thought I would post some pics and see what everyone else thought!!!

Great job!! I've been steeling myself to just jump in on a restoration project and this is great encouragement!!! Nice looking razor!!

If you don't mind, how did you hollow out the wood? One piece scales are sweet!

Scroll saw. I am about to do another set and I think I am going to find someone with a band saw and cut out the center then shape the scales. For this set I shaped the scales first then took them to a scroll saw (it was the first time I had used one) and just cut out the center. I found out I suck with a scroll saw!
