Default Belgian razors any good? From Aalst?

I'm looking at a razor stamped with Aalst. Maker is Gebr. A.S. Sand or somesuch. Google search revealed that Aalst is a city in Belgium and Gebr. is short for Gebruder "brother." So I'm going to go with Belgian razor.

Think its any good? Never heard of a Belgian razor before.

Actually, 'Gebr' is short for 'Gebroeders' which is the old style form of 'Broers' and it means brothers. 'Gebruders' is the German form, not the Dutch form which was no doubt used in Aalst.

In any case, I only came across a razor from Belgium (Charleroi) once, and it was no good.
My guess is that your blade is German made and simply bought wholesale by the guys from Aalst.
I don't know for sure though. It could be made in Belgium, but afaik we never had a significant razor industry. Most razors here came from Germany (as evidenced by antique stores and antiques markets).

Hmm, how interesting. Sure sounds like the razors not worth the $50 price tag. Its pretty dirty and old, probably has a bunch of pitting. Seller claims early 1800's. Does that make a difference?

Unless the seller knows his stuff, he has no way of knowing whether it was late or early 1800s.
If it is dirty and pitted, then 50$ is probably not a great deal. Not a bad deal either if it turns out to be a good shaver. And I could always be wrong. I am married so it's not abnormal

Let's put it like this: I am Belgian, and I would not pick it up for that price unless it looked great.
