Thanked: 235Has anyone heard of a Turul razor?
Hi everyone.
I recently bought a handfull of razors from a local antique store. They are all brands I have heard of except for one. I bought it because it looked interesting. It is very narrow. The blade is only 1.5cm wide. The spine has what looks like a floral pattern either filed or stamped into it.
One side of the tang has
Turul
Budapest
And the other side has
Gold Sword
Solingen Germany
In between the gold and sword is a stamp that says
EKS
And on top of this is a crown.
Also, where the tang is pinned to the scales there is the remnant of gold plating. And on the underside of the tang has the remnants of gold plating.
The scales are made from white celluloid.
I would love to know if anyone has come across one of these and if they are any good. I will attache some photos as soon as I get back home from my holiday.
Thanks in advance.

Thanked: 735Wow, that's a beauty. Isn't that all you need to know?
Made in Solingen, so you know it is quality. Probably some big Razor House made it with a custom brand name for a particular vendor.
Really nice! Shine it up, hone it up, and enjoy!

Thanked: 235After taking the photos I have a slight problem. It is difficult to see in these photos, but when the sun shines on the tang you can see remnants of the gold plating. It seems that at one stage the whole tang was gold plated. I will polish up the blade, but with the tang, is there anything I can use that will remove dirt and light stains, but not touch the gold? It would be a terrible shame to lose what little gold remains.

Thanked: 3795Nope, never heard of it, but I love the spine. I don't recall ever seeing one like that before.
Gold plating is a major PITA! I don't know of any way to clean it up without losing it. For that reason I try to avoid razors that have it unless I am willing to remove it or leave it alone by working around it. I know there have been some discussions about this before but I don't recall any great solutions. A search on gold plating might help.
