Smith & Wesson Straights?
I've seen the Smith & Wesson trademark on a couple of those older style fixed blade razors with a safety guard and just wanted to ask if anyone knew whether or not Smith & Wesson made proper straights prior to this.
Kindest regards,
Alex

No they didn't make them. Either they had them made and just put their name on them or someone else not connected to them just put their name on them.

So are you familiar with a proper straight razor that bears the Smith & Wesson trademark? Or are you just pointing to the difference between actually maufacturing a razor versus branding a razor? Irrespective of the provenance of such an item I would still be interested to know whether or not there are any Smith & Wesson branded straights out there.
Kindest regards,
Alex

Is that the same Browning Bros. razor as on Jon's Swords? In the photos there is no indication of origin, does anyone know if Browning Bros. were involved in the manufacture of razors, or is this another case of a firm simply branding the razor? Would anyone happen to know if Browning Bros. used American or German steel?
Kindest regards,
Alex

Yes it is. And I do not know about the steel.
EDIT:
Since they were reportedly made for a short period of time. It could have been, American Steel. I am sure that they used American Steel for the guns, so they would have had an inside track on the industry.Last edited by singlewedge; 04-30-2009 at 02:55 PM.

No I don't personally have one but I can tell you they never manufactured razors. It was very common for many concerns to have razors made for them and they just put their name on them. Sears and Montgomery ward probably sold tens of thousands of straights, maybe more however neither ever made a razor.
There were really far fewer manufacturers then names on the razors. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
