Default Pics of my obsidian blabe

Climberslacker's thread about an obsidian straight razor promted me to post pics of my obsidian blade . I bought it at a knapping show a few years ago . Although it is somewhat sharp , it's impossible to shave with it (I tried) , and IMO is a novelty item , only .

Nice piece! And you can carry it through a metal detector.

Hmm... Looks like something to be used for microtome-type work.

That's the natural shape of the blade after it has been struck from an obsidian core , that has been knapped into a shape that mutiple blades can be struck from . The ends have been knapped and ground , and the spine has been ground . Less than 5 minutes work for a skilled knapper .

    Something that I'm obviously not.

Thanks for the bit of explanation. I guess I always think of the triangular chunks that can occur from knapping (from my limited observations), and forget that other shards fracture in more linear shapes.
