    Default Soligen brand razor quality

There is a seller on eBay, apparently in Sweden, who sells Soligen brand razors. I posed the following question:

"Are the blades on your Soligen razors actually forged in Soligen, Germany, or are they forged elsewhere and shipped to Germany where they are assembled with scales? If they are forged elsewhere, where would that be?"

    The reply:

"...the blades are forged in Solingen only. As "Solingen" is a trademark by law (the only town in the world) all knifes and scissors with Solingen on it has to be produced in Solingen. The company has to be registered and has to follow certain high quality criterias due to sharpness, function and durability.
All blanks for all straight razors made in Solingen come from one single company (from the uncle of my wife).
Sometimes you find cheap pakistan or china razors or knifes on the market, specially in the USA but there is an organisation in Solingen which keeps an eye on that.
This razor is very special as it is made of stainless INOX steel with the same extreme sharpnes as the carbon steel razors. It is my favorite one and I think I am the only one who offers it right now as they are diffucult to get. I only have a few left."

Often times you will see razors just marked Solingen without any other brand. I think they were just generic Solingen blades made by an assortment of manufacturers there to be sold by tourist shops or merchants in the area. There is no manufacturer called Solingen of course.

I would imagine they are quality blades you just have to ensure they are marked made in Solingen or Germany as opposed to no mention made as to where they are manufactured because those could well be made elsewhere and then just shipped through Solingen so they can put in on the product.

Several years ago there was a Pakastani guy in Canada selling Pakastani razors on eBay and saying his razors were "Solingen" brand razors. I turned him over to the Solingen Knife Guild legal people and they made him stop. They now advertise them as "German quality" - ya right!
