Thread: Point Preference

Sorry if this had been done. I was reading the thread on 7 day sets and thought about the fact that all the ones I've seen are round point blades. which made me wonder if this was, at the time, the most popular point style. was it a european preference? so many american blades seem to be spike.

I started getting curious, what is really the most popular style?

I prefer French points "à la Wapi" for razors with straight backs and square points for sway backs.


I haven't seen a Barber's notch that I like so far (no offense meant).

I really like the french points myself, something about the shape of em.

I don't want to vote because I could go Spanish, (spiked) French, Spike or Barber's notch - I like anything that has a shaving edge all the way to the end. In other words, I don't like round points.

My least favourite is the round. It just looks a little tame! Of the others, it rotates a little. I'll go through phases on which blade i'll be using more than the others & they're all very different. Recently they've happened to have spanish & french.

my favorite is a square point, but that's not in the poll so I said my second favorite, round points.

My least favorite is a spike point, which I distinguish from a square point (my favorite). The Spike sticks out there to stab you, the square goes straight down (or that's how I break it).

My favorite blade right now is a round point, so I'll vote that way this week. Might change to French or Spanish though.

I use and like them all just fine, but for looks, I vote barber's notch. Just plain looks great.

I don't own a spanish and barber's but I'd really love one, especially on one of those old shefielld smiling blades.

I think my least favorite is round, I'm not sure I have a favorite.
