slightly serious sweeney
Just browsing ebay I noticed people selling the Sweeney Todd razors from the recent movie with Johnny Depp. First of all I am staying away from em but i was just curious if anyone has used this SR or heard of anyone who has/reviews. Sweeney Todd Movie Straight Edge Razor Blade "New" - eBay (item 320370531358 end time May-14-09 19:50:12 PDT) the description claims it is a replica but would someone be able to use it? this is purely something i saw that was interesting and not something im actually getting.

i really can't see that razor being cable of giving a good shave, and even if it were that blade is ginormous!!!

nothing doing. the blade is made of 440C, it'll never hold a shaving edge, it almost certainly hasn't been tempered correctly.
plus, the blade geometry doesn't look like it would take an edge well.

Thanked: 90I think this is terrible. Honestly.
The last thing I want to see is straights treated as if they're weapons. Some stupid teen age antisocial misfit is going to buy one of these and use it to assult someone. Stand by for outraged mothers screaming for the government to "DO something about the easy availability of these horrible weapons"
"Won't someone think of the children!?"
The average person could easily be convinced that razors should be banned. After, there are "safety razors" available. Only some weirdo would want a dangerous weapon like that in their house. "You expect me to believe that you actually shave with that?" The same logic that is used to ban "assult" weapons will be used to curtail our hobby.
Oh how I hate Tim Burton!
Edit: Now that I read this post, I think it sounds very parinoid. Sorry. I do expect that this will result in more negative attention. It's not the end of the world I guess.Last edited by joesixpack; 05-15-2009 at 02:46 PM.

yeah that did sound a bit paranoid but i do understand why you see that but just to allay your fears people can still buy rifles/shotguns and handguns some non fix blade knives aren't going to be frightened people's first target.
oh and jockeys i am a newbie so i dont really know. whats 440c? is it just a soft metal?

I already asked...and got a pretty straightforward response. Old_Blades custom made me a set from clear acrylic. The amount of metal needed on the scales to have the engraving would offset the balance of the blade. Let me see if I can find it...here it is.
The first is the picture I found of a guy who made a custom set of scales to put on a replica blade...obviously not for practical use. The second is the set of scales that Old_Blades laser etched for me.
