    Default Styptic staining my razor?

I have been straight shaving for less then a month, so my inexperience leads me to seek help here. So....

Since I just bought a Dovo Best Quality, i am treating it like royalty. I properly clean and care for it (at least from what I've read). I still nick myself on a regular basis, so a styptic pencil is a must.
During my last shave, I made another pass near where I had nicked myself earlier and sealed it up, but when I rinsed the razor off after the pass there was white residue all over the blade. I've tried rinsing and wiping it off the blade to no avail. It almost looks like a bit of soap scum on the blade.
Any tips or suggestions as to why this is? Has anyone experienced this before? I use a Conks styptic pencil.

I know "This thread is useless without pics". I will try to post some later this week.

well, I"ve never had that particular problem, but I don't use stiptic until I'm all done shaving. I find that the soap will stop most small nics within a few seconds anyway, so all I have to do is finish my shave and plash with cold water. Maybe 1 shave in 10 anymore do I still need a pencil.

I seem to recall reading somewhere here that alum blocks and styptic pencils are bad for steel. Most of these minor staining issues can be handled with a little Maas or Flitz polish.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I read this post... easy fix is to take off whatever is on the blade with some MAAS, then just use the styptic after your shave. It's always worked for me.

yeah, let's face it, if you're bleeding badly enough that you can't finish your shave without the styptic, you probably shouldn't be finishing that shave anyway.
