Steve Dempster states (or at least when I picked up mine) on his site that he's got some "old" stock. Presumably better, but I have no experience with other wapis.

Thanked: 84Steve is "As sound as a £"
They are Wapi II's I understand. Sadly, he doesn't think he can get anymore "metal" ones, luckily I did get one though.

Thanked: 234I wouldn't mind a 'metal' wapi, maybe in a couple months.
You should put that quote in context silver.

Okay, in all my digging I was unable to come up with anything concrete or quantifiable- the Iron Curtain and USSR troubles did a smash-up job of obscuring all the details.
You can check Google and this forum for reams of discussion, but it looks like there was one main foundry/cutler, SFK, in a town several miles from Wapienica that produced the bulk of the razors called "Wapi". Unstamped, SFM, and other logos sometimes appear, which were as likely as not made in another location, by another company, but to the same blade specifications and from the same steel- keep in mind these were all government owned means of production.
All today are sold as Wapi razors, and while there is variance in the quality/steel/etc. it is more likely due to the year produced than a specific brand, and all are known as being grand shavers for the price.
Hope this helps, and I'm sorry I couldn't find any formal list of stamp nomenclature. Bloody commies...

I think what Greg is asking is: Just how sound is the British pound so that he can then determine just how reliable Steve must be.

Thanked: 84Ah! Good point, with reference to the current financial (for working people) situation. Ok, he is "As good as gold then" or "He's a copper bottom investment".........

Thanked: 234Nah, I'm ok with the 'as sound as a pound' phrase.
the Gandhi quote has quite a lot more to it, though. I don't know why I mentioned it to be honest.

I think Steve's a good guy to do business with, and just after reading this thread earlier I popped into his site to order that pretty Wostenholm semi-wedge he's got on there.
For me it doesn't matter he's not one of the "incrowd" providers here, he's pleasant, in my opinion and experience so far.

Thanked: 84I pinched it from an article about a photographer who wished he had a gun instead of his camera while being shot at in India. That's how it was used there.
