Thanked: 0Razor in question
Hello, everyone. I recently came across a razor that I not been able to find any information on. I was hoping somebody might be able to tell me a little about it and the manufacturer. It is in very good condition and seems to be carbon steel. The attached pictures are a little dark, but they are they best I can do. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.
On one side, it is stamped with:
JJDSON CUTLERY CO.
NY
MADE IN GERMANY
the reverse reads:
22 GREATER
NEW YORK

Thanked: 0Thanks, Walt. I was considering that possibility too, but the stamping is very crisp (although the picture fails to show that).

I looked for New York Business Listings from 1800 - 1900 and came up blank.
I am sure that if one of our members went to a NY public library this could be easily looked up.

I found a reference to a Judson Cutlery Company that operated in New York between 1890 and 1910. They made razors and knives. Take another look at that stamping using a magnifier and see if it was possibly mis-struck.

The razor would have been made by one of the many cutlers in Germany that made razors for overseas retailers. JJDSON CUTLERY CO would have been the company that retailed the razor.
