That would be neat....
humpback with a barber's notch?
or is it the lens flare that's got you goin'? :roflmao
Looks like something Robert Williams could do a fantastic job on.........
Sounds like an idea whose time has come. We need some enterprising soul to organize a group buy. I'm sure the membership could all agree on grind, scale material and size. :roflmao:roflmao:roflmao Seriously ..... a group buy would be cool if we could get it at a reasonable cost. Where is Josh Earl now that we need him ?
Yeah, let's just go ahead and get that wrapped up by lunch. While we're at it, let's get these razors produced today, and shipped out so we can all discuss our first shaves by the weekend!
With this group, we'll argue about the STEEL to be used for three months!
I mean, it's obvious that 1/2 hollow san mai steel 8/8, with mastadon ivory is the ONLY way to go.
As payment for me clearing that up, I'll take Serial #1, ok....Lynn can have #001, I'll take #002.
The first time I saw that I thought "very cool"
Then I thought "that would be a real mother to hone" :D
We could call it the SRP LE Divorce Memorial razor, because if I bought one my wife would divorce me!
Didn't we have a group buy a while ago where a lucky few could get in on a special purchase 7/8 Mastro Livi with Olivewood scales? As it turned out the razor was a husky 8/8+ with Massivewood (OK big Olivewood) scales. In my opinion the razor is too big to use, but that's a personal problem as there are some who love huge blades.
At any rate, if there it to be another group buy, make sure that all the specs are made up front and that the maker needs to know what tolerances there are from those specifications and all, maker and buyer alike, are aware of both these requirements and flexibilities ahead of purchase.
;)
There was the TI SRP customs quite a while ago i say we make another custom. If we are creating a group buy i am in. We could have some user generated concepts.
A group buy would be frikkin sweet! You know most of the regs here would buy one, whether they could afford it or not (or could explain it to their SWMBO)
I mean, just by nature of trying to replicate the logo razor it would have a few specs naturally inherent to the design....obviously barber's notch, humpback, hollow ground, skinny shank (hopefully not too skinny to hold) and big old frikkin tang.....
It's tough to tell the scale of the drawing, but looks like it'd be about 6/8 and maybe 3 1/2" long?? brass pins?
The only real questions would be what materials to use for the blade and scales....no problem, right?! heh :gl:
To get the scales to be that solid aqua blue color, you'd have to use some kind of synthetic plastic/composite/celluloid type material, right? Preferably one that would be easy to inlay a logo onto, or better yet, something that could be manufactured in short run for relatively little $$$.....the logo looks to match the blade, so it would prolly be inlaid with silver or steel...silver is generally preferred as an inlay material
Now the blade material would be a little more complicated. Are there companies that sell JUST blades? Decent quality blades? Depending on how many options there are, this would probably narrow down the choices available pretty quick.
Hmmm....I'm just a n00b so I could be way off base, but it sounds like nailing down the specs wouldn't be all that hard (assuming everyone can agree we are actually trying to recreate the razor in the logo, and not some tricked out customized version that doesn't resemble it at all....heh)
Guys, when I created the razor in the SRP logo, I had a plan to release the real deal as an official SRP razor for members to purchase. So if you guys can wait, I do still plan on actually creating these blades and selling them under my custom brand.. along with other blades and products :tu (but of course if anyone in the meantime wishes to create a razor based on the logo, then thats just great - and I'm quite flattered, frankly.)
(great analysis jdurango, you've pretty much described it as it is - nicely done..)
I'm in ... I don't care what size blade, I don't care what scale material ... I'll buy one. (Oh wait, they don't exist yet) Anyway, great idea!
Actually that blade is kind of similar to the TI Pierre Thiers Limited Edition.
Organizing a group buy for a razor is a tough proposition. The best way to do it is just set the specs and contract with a maker. If you start with opinions from members you'll be hashing it out for months and never get a consensus.
If your serious just make sure you run it by a mod or super mod if its going to be an official SRP razor.
Did you buy that one? I just canceled my snipe on it as part of my pledged of no sniping for 48 hours.
back on topic...I like the idea of a group buy. Might I suggest contacting Revisor. Right now they are a newish company trying to re-establish their reputation. This could be an opportunity for them to get some publicity in the straight shaving community.
If needed, I just got one NOS and one newly forged Revisor that haven't been honed. I could send them to an agreed upon expert for honing and testing. (the pics are posted in my Mr Postman thread under Show and Tell).
Good job on the design....again, very cool looking razor, and pretty unique too...more of a modern take on a classic design. I'm glad to hear that this razor will actually be a reality! I'll definately pick one up when they become available! Great job! Keep on rockin brother!
I'm definitely on board for this, too! Keep us posted on when you're gonna start taking pre-orders!
This sounds great! I'm in too just let me know how much deposit is when you there and I will be more than happy to be a part of this!!
Oh Yea!:D

I am one voice advocating keeping the blade size down. I think 6/8 is plenty large.
And you thought it would be easy to get everyone to agree.
And I am thinking blue titanium scales and etched logo. Lignum Vitae wedge
remember guys that before this can be a SRP razor or group buy you would need to discuss and get it approved by the moderators / admin. Just a reminder carry on.
Octo,
I don't think anyone was ripped, it's just that the Mastro likes big blades and seems to make/grind blades about 1/8 over their specified size. Once you know this, well, then it's just one of those things. Other makers seem to make razors much closer to stated size.
Good luck, all, on the proposed venture.
Gross? How is titanium alloy gross? It is the strongest metal for it's weight known to man....it's used on just about every space shuttle ever built and has made regular space travel possible. It's the choice material for high quality military hardware, fighter planes, jet planes, missles, tanks, ships and submarines....the SR71 Blackbird spy plane is made almost entirely from titanium alloy.....it's also rustproof, hypoallergenic and impervious to microbiological corrosion.
I think by "gross" you mean BAD ASS!!! heh heh:tu
As for the stainless blade, it would be kind of a pain and I'm not totally sold on the idea either.....it would just add to the badassness factor! =)
ohh i see. he means husky like chubby, i thought he meant some generic razor brand
I mean like the blue titanium here:

Doesn't hurt that it would match my L R Harner custom!
HOLY CRAP this sounds like a good idea, someone get this started!!! I would love to see a SRP LE razor like that
Sounds good to me! If it's a 6/8 or 7/8 show me as in.
Oh Yeah!
I'm not partial to stainless..
Good ol Carbon steel is the way for ease of honing
