Thread: Today's haul

Today I went back to a junk/antique shop in Edinburgh where I knew there were more straights in a drawer behind the counter. The guy had sold me a single Spanish razor some time ago but at that time I had not developed a particular interest in the open razor.

He tumbled out about 20 grubby specimens from the drawer and I sorted through them all. The best were 4 solid-looking razors which were marked as follows:

Puma "Special", Solingen
Pass? "Hamburg Ring", Solingen (uncertain of first letter in curious script)
Edelstahl, Solingen
Thiers-Issard, Made in France, Sheffield Best Silver Steel

They look as though only minimal restoration will be needed. £15 the lot.

Need to go look for a hone for my straight tomorrow. I haev put some calls in around the Washington, DC area and have been offered four. One is a pass because its a diamond based and the sticky in the newbie section gives a link to a web site that warns against diamond based hones. Two of the other three are american and the third is Japaneese. Let's see how things turn out with the hunting tomorrow morning.
