Thanked: 13249Bitten by a "Gold" Bug:::
This one I just found on the Bay actually is my second "Gold Bug"
My other is a A.Witte, this one I just snagged last week for an unbeliveable $37 shipped right here
An absolute NOS in it's leather case S.R.Droescher "Gold Bug" this thing has never been touched.... I wish it still had the original box too....
S.R. DROESCHER
Importer at 77-79 Warren Street, New York City; later opened a factory in Cranbury, New Jersey
ca. 1891-1924 (manufacture of razors began ca. 1916)
I expect it will shave just like my other Droescher, these are excellent shavers if you find them in good shape.... Watch the scales on these if you are looking to buy, they have a tendency to have some warpage....

Thanked: 13249WOW!!! first shave this morning, the blade was fantastic on the hones last night, seriously took 20 minutes and ended with a near perfect bevel... The shave this morning was the proof of the pudding, super sharp but smooth as silk, love this one....

Great razor at a great price, Glen! I picked up it's twin in 7/8s a few weeks ago, unused - but paid a bunch more for the fun.
In spite of it's width, the blade is paper thin with a narrow spine, very lightweight and maneuverable. It's the most hollowed razor I own, and I was concerned it might be harsh. But my experience matches yours, it is silky smooth in use, almost friendly. It takes a fantastic, sweet, sticky edge.
My only disappointment is that the scales are flimsy and poorly fitted on mine, and a blade this fine deserves much better. If I can stand to part with it, I'll be sending it your way for a re-scale soon, along with a few others.
I don't know whether it's US made or a German import, it's marked New York. I love European razors, but I really want to believe that Americans turned out top-tier blades like this at one time.
