You can use it for shaving if you want to. It is sold as a hair shaper, but that design was adapted from their Bantam model that came out in the 1930s. The Bantam was a smaller version of the standard model that was begun in 1909. The Bantam was probably made to emulate some of the dwarf style razors. When hairdresser started doing razor styling this shape was easier to use than the full sized razor and fostered a new line for Weck. As the following ad shows, this was a razor intended for shaving the face - not cutting your hair.

    Regards - Walt

Here are some Weck variations. Orange scales - hair shaper; stainless scales - Bantam; a Weck corn razor and finally, a full sized Weck Sextoblade. Probably more than you every wanted to know about the subject.

Don't dismiss the shave out-of-hand. There were guys shaving with these razors for a lot of years. Weck was also a manufacturer of medical instruments and the steel used in their blades was very good. Send me a PM with your address and I'll send you some blades to try. Strop them like you would any razor and you may be surprised.

    Regards - Walt

You can get a close comfortable shave with a Weck hairshaper/razor. They are very easy to nick yourself with, but if you are careful they will give you a nice shave. I like real straight razor better. Some of the Weck's were sold as razors, I also have a Weck that is a real straight razor.

    I like the Personna blades.

You might be suprised. I used a Fromm Hairshaper for a few years and I've had a Weck also - both performed well for me. I always used Fromm Hairshaper blades, but I also have a box old stock Pearl Duck blue blades. PM me with mailing instructions and I'll send you a couple of packs, gratis.
