    Default Cleaning around Gold

I just received the below from ebay - it is 7/8 and it's nice in the hand. Anyway, I want to clean it up, but don't want to destroy the nice gold wash.

What can I use besides soap and water? Alcohol?

And what can't I use? I used MAAS on my goldedge and it's now it's no longer gold. And I think I've read barbicide is a no-no for goldedge (and think it removed some red tang paint from a henckels).

On Gillette DEs Windex was recommended for the gold plating. I suspect it would be fine for goldwash. Try a little on a spot before you go over the whole area if you use it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

If its just some loose dirt you want to remove then the windex is fine just don't rub hard.

The problem is anything that will remove real dirt or tarnish will also take the gold off. That's just the way it is. Actually that razor looks real good in the photos so you shouldn't need to clean much there.

you are right. didn't need much. Had a little glop of dirt/oxidation on the top of the spine and the non-gold side. So I used a TINY amount of maas there, and then cleaned with just soap and water, and it's pretty darn nice. Looking forward to hining this one up. Thought it was 5/8 but it's a full 7/8.
