W. Gay & Son razor
Has anyone had any experience with, or know about a company called W. Gay & Son? I bought a razor today with that name on the tang. Above it is stamped 113 High Holborn and below the name is what looks like 297 Regent St. Does anyone know if W. Gay was the distributor or the manufacturer, and what time period they were in operation. I found the name connected to the dates 1854 and 1878. The razor is a 6/8 hollow grind, square point and has horn scales. The upper jimps are unusual because they aren't cut across the tang, but rather cut into the edges of the tang.
