I picked up a "William Rodgers..." Sheffield razor with bone scales last year, with the intention to scrap the toasted "appearing" blade from the ebay pics. After I got it I was still convinced that the blade was a gonner. Heavy rust and crud build up all over the blade. It also apeared to be chromed, not a good thing in my eyes But I had to clean it off and see what it would look like. After about 4 cleaning seasons over that past year I kind of got most of the gunk off, and it's some rather HARD gunk... But none of it was at the edge. So I figured sence it looked ok there I may as well hone it and see what happened... I did about a dozen or so laps on the Oohira hone and then a dozen or so on the coticule, nice even edge that looked about right. Than 20 or so passes on Cro2 leather and I was ready to take it to the strop. With every fresh edge I di at least 20 passes than set up my shave.

Holy snot... This steel took a great edge and a most excelent shave... and to think I was going to scrap the blade all together... Now I have to decide if I'm going to keep in as part of my line up or move it off.. I seem to be getting more razors than I have room at the moment. But as great as it shaves... It looks the exact oposite, beside the bone scales, this blade is UGLY (and partially shiney)...

So do any of you have simular stories?
