Default Hobson Brothers 6/7 day set

Got this set of Tradera (Ebay equivalence in sweden) for ≈ $40. The set is missing Monday, but other than that they seem to be in good shape. Small amount of rust around pivot area and 3 broken scales. Most of them seem to be 6/8 except for Sunday and all are smiling or smirking!

I couldn't find "Hobson Brothers" in the wiki so I don't know their age, but the spacer looks like it is made out of lead, which leeds me to believe they are pre 1900. I could be wrong.

All will have their scales replaced with Amboyna burl, when I have the time and money.

Extraordinary find! Congrats!! In Sheffield there were tons of Hobsons; in the Sheffield Directory of 1852 I found: Hobson Brothers, (John & Henry,) cutlery merchants, Bank buildings, and London. I couldn't find them in the Directory of 1857 or in the Freedom Books of Sheffield Cutlers. It could be that they were simply buying razors from some cutler to re-sell them with their name.

For Henry Hobson I also found: Hobson Henry, lemonade, ginger beer, soda water, black beer, and peppermint cordial manufacturer, Meetinghouse lane; house: Mount Pisgah

Very nice find, congrats. I'm with Big red and really like the spine on those blades. The shot from the end of the blade is GREAT!!

There is a Henry Hobson in the classifieds as we speak (not mine). I love the blade profile and spine on yours too. One observation I've made with 7 day sets is many of them will have one razor out of the 7 that is well used, maybe two and the rest will be unused. Not always of course but many times.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Wonderful and very old razors! Thanks for sharing the photos. So, when you pick one to shave with, are you faced with "Hobson's choice?"

This could be the "Genesis" set. On the 7th day, you rest.
