A great razor, but be advised that the spike point on these has a well earned reputation for biting the careless. Make sure you know where the point is at all times, and mind your technique. These make great shavers, but they demand respect.

    Default Imp No. 133

I picked up a No. 133 Imp blade with disintegrated scales a few weeks back. I've got the blade nice and shiny . . . now for some scales.

Original scales seem to be tough on these guys as I believe I've read somewhere that these were prone to shrinking and/or warping. You see a few on the bay that don't look bad. I'd be interested in what some of our refurbishing experts like Max, Dan and Glenn along with a host of others could do with the original scales.

If my experience is representative, then I'd say the history you describe is right. Roughly one quarter of the scales was simply missing (lengthwise along one side). The remaining pieces were still attached, but looked like they'd been through a shredder lengthwise from tip to tip.

On reflection, my No. 133 doesn't have the Case marking on the other side of the tang (it's simply blank). Did more than one Co. make the Red Imp?

That's a nice looking piece of hardware.

The tang of my blade opposite the side with the Red Imp and No. 133 stampings is completely blank. I guess I'll never know.

    Here's mine,

Case, W R and Sons "Red Imp 132" 5/8 - Straight Razor Place Wiki

I have to have the red paint redone on the tang but other than that it's great!
