    Default Care of Horn scales.

Has anyone any information about caring for vintage horn scales?
I realise you need to keep the bugs away & not to let them dry out but I was wondering if anyone put a finish on them to protect them for storage?

Normal horn like Buffalo or Cow as opposed to antilope which I'm told are actually hair should have a coat of oil put on them a few times a year and allowed to penetrate for 30 minutes or so and then wipe it off. Ivory is the same. I guess you could seal it with wax too but I'm not sure if that would protect it enough and you would have to do the inside too. I would think the hair type would do best with wax or some sealer.
