Thanked: 0Barbicide and Razor Safety
Just a quick question: Do you think it is safe to submerse a razor with a wooden handle in Barbicide?

Thanked: 127I don't think I would submerse the scales in anything. Although they may appear to be sealed completely, I think the drilling of the pin hole exposed the wood fibers at that point and if subermeged in a liquid would absorb it and begin to swell or rot in that area. If you are only interested in disinfecting the razor then I would just soak the blade only and avoid the scales.

I've had problems with celluloid scales in Barbicide... bad problems. I thought I had brought on cell rot but the set I tested this on is finally starting not to smell (for about a month and a half, it smelled after the Barbicide. I tried alcohol too and it also screwed with celluloid....
Frankly I'm not sure what people do to clean their scales around here, but I'd love to know. I can tell you don't put wood in Barbicide, it's going to stain it blue if nothing else.

Occasional soap and very hot water for me as far as keeping scales clean. If it's a bay purchase I'll use some "green" type of dishwashing soap my wife buys so that I'm not using anything harsh enough to damage them. Do clean up the bay wins well unless you want to have some 100 year old DNA drip out into a cut some morning! Anyway the dish soap is working well thus far.
