    Question sanguine razor

this was an impulse buy off ebay, i knew nothing about straight razors and didn't want to spend too much money, so i ended up spending quite a bit. because after that i bought a dovo razor. with the dovo i am satisfied of course. the other, the sanguine, my question is, can i make it into a decent razor still, with honing or should i just forget it all together?

    thanks.

Isn't that a feather type of razor?
I've heard one guy who peeled himself literally with a sanguine (that bid its name every honor, LOL)

Feather is the name of a company that makes a great many different things, replaceable blade straights being a very small part of their catalogue. The type of razor you are referring to is a Shavette.

There is a company called sanguine that makes shavettes, but that razor looks suspiciously "master"esque...Does it say anything about where it was made?

    Smile Sanguine

Price of a razor is a good indicator of quality. You still can get a very good new Dovo for $74.99. But Sanguine? Where are they made? As a newbie I stay with well known brands, so I would have no regrets later. Advise I took to heart was to stay with Solingen, Sheffield, french, italian, spanish or sewdish steel. Wapi is only $49.99, the razor is from Poland, but the blade is sewdish steel. A great shaver.

interesting....the only thing I have ever had from Sanguine is the shavette style razor that you use with 1/2 of a DE blade. The shavette style razor works really well, but it is a shavette style razor, not a true straight.

I didn't even know Sanguine made regular, non-shavette style straights.

Final verdict....if the wiki says stay away.....then stay away.

I have one of those Sanguines and it honed up and shaves very nicely. From what I've been able to uncover, they are Chinese made and the steel is not as good as what the American and European manufacturers use. I do find that it requires more frequent honing but I get a good several months of shaves out of it in between honings.

I have been curious to learn if these are made by the same outfit that makes the Double Arrow razors.

Anyway, I would certainly suggest putting it to the stone and seeing what happens. You might just have a good second razor there. If not I'll PM you my address.

Sanguine is a hairdresser company like Fromm. So I'd guess its not outstanding quality, but its probably better than novelty outfits like Master etc.
