    Default H. Boker & Co's Baby

    Howdy guys,

So, earlier today, I received my first bay purchase. I went looking for information about it both here and through a google search and came up dry.

Pics are on my girlfriend's camera. Should have them up tomorrow.

Stamped with the tree by itself (man. 1924-1935 according to wiki) and H. Boker & Co's Baby.

This is a fairly small razor, ~9/16 wide throughout, little bit of a smile. 1/4-1/2 hollow ground. Cutting length of blade is only 2 1/4", tip to pivot is 4 3/4". Oblique point. No major chipping, tiny nicks in the edge.

Scales are black plastic (celluloid?) in good shape with a white spacer, snug fit on the pins, blade centers.

So, it looked a little rough in the bay pics, but the edge looked decent, hone wear looked even enough, so I went for it.

It had some staining throughout, but no rust. Couple spots that "might" be pits, perhaps some sort of other damage. So, of course I got excited for some polishing action to determine the extent of the staining/pitting.

Thanks to the wiki, I got some info on what I'd be looking for and how to go about the process.

Headed down to Home Depot, and got a pack with some of the emery buffing compound and white rouge. Broke out the trusty, well-used (for other projects) Dremel and some felt wheels and started.

I went VERY lightly at about 5k on the dremel with the ~3/8" felt wheel, and moved quickly to avoid heating things up. When I got to a point where the blade felt warm to the touch, I wrapped it in a wet paper towel for a moment. She cleaned up pretty nicely. Not a mirror finish or anything, but at least free of the staining.

Pics of the before and after should be up tomorrow.

If you happen to have one of these or know anything about them beyond "It's a boker dude, it's good steel" I'd love to hear about it.

Info on the baby specifically, or just general Boker info?

I just paged through the entire thread (including the PDF's of the catalog) and didn't find anything. Of course, the stamp says it was a later model than would be in the catalog...

I'll be officially applying to join the brotherhood once I get the pics up.

Very unique razor, congratulations! Mine was extremely hard to hone, for some reason, and took a lot longer than I thought a little blade like that would need. They are excellent finishing razors for "hard to get" neck and chin areas.
