Beginners Blade
What would be a good price to pay for a 6/8 sheffield made razor that would make a beginners razor?

Shave ready, and for a beginner this is a requirement, between €30 and €50 I'd say. Check out the classifieds here or other reputable on line vendors.

Thanks!
I currently use DE & therefore have all the lotions & potions as it were. would i also need to get a strop at the same time as the razor?

Thanked: 137Yes, you should strop it before each shave to ensure it's sharp - check out the reviews forum and the wiki for ideas on which strop to buy - something cheap is generally recommended for your first one so it doesn't matter as much if you nick it when stropping, and some recommend a second-hand one so you don't have to break it in.
The cost of the blade is up to you. You could happily blow a large amount on a blade if you feel it's worth it, when another person might think it's worth half that. Alan's suggestions are good though - check out the classifieds on the site if you absolutely MUST have a Sheffield (there's noone who makes sheffield razors any more, so you'll only be able to buy a NOS or second-hand one, which is more likely to be found in the classifieds than off a commercial site) but if you're happy with something like a TI or Dovo, you can also check out other vendors. SRD is a reputable one - they pre-hone the blades properly if requested, so you get a truly shave-ready razor. That's not to say other sites don't though. Check it out with them and see what they'll do.
Welcome to the SR world, you'll be glad you made the step!

Thanked: 19036/8ths are a lot rarer than 5/8ths. "Good" is extremely relative. I have a rather beaten up 6/8ths that shaves very well. Got it for something like 10 USD, and I think that's a good price. Especially for a beginner's razor, as you are likely to dull the edge, chip the blade, crack the scales, or let it gather rust. I'd definitely go for one from the Classifieds from a well established, reputable seller. Might even want to place a WTB ad there.
Good luck,
Robin
