    I assume that at one point straight razors were nothing more than knives.

    I saw it listed as a razor from the 1500s on an online ancient items auctionhouse several months ago. There were also some of the older curved razors from Greek and Roman times. For all I know, it's just a neck knife

    I believed whomever dated this was just guessing. Then I looked at the link and saw it was a museum and seller of antiquities.
