FEATHER "Nape Razor" for 1st Str8 shave!
I have some friends that want to try a Str8 shave, but they are afraid.."cut-throat"!
What do you think about "FEATHER Nape Razor" to start in the Str8 razors world? Is it more safer then others? Anyone ever used one?
Thx

This will sound like a sacrilege to some, but I would recommend they start with a straight razor not a feather. Glen (gssixgun) can attest to the difference in the 2 blades. Check this thread http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...tml#post407288
I'm not sure what advantage there is to starting with a feather. I went directly from a Merkur twin to a straight. ymmv and others may disagree.

Sometimes it is a psychological factor! If you know that, maybe, the Feather is more safe then a Str8 razor, you will win trust, get the hang of it, and have a smother passage to the Str8. I’ve already been reading that Thread, but don’t have any – that I read – specific answer for my doubts: Feather Nape Razor – safer then the other Feathers?
I think it’s a good way to start, to the most of the “beginners” that have “afraid”. And to these people, its better to winn there trust first.

Go with a Rolls Razor or an SE like a GEM.
Gems act like straights in that I get the best results with stretching. A Rolls would be the best bet though.

It takes more than 3 shaves to acquire the technique to properly use a Feather AC and benefit from it's features

A friend of mine is interested in straight shaving to and he has the same kind of fears. His first experience will actually be watching me use the straight, then I'll be sending him off to SRP wiki. Before he even picks up a straight he'll have a basic understanding of all the important concepts.
That's were I differ from some I guess. I take a very slow methodical approach to showing things that have a lot of potential to be dangerous. I feel that if you get them comfortable with one small piece at a time they get over there fears once they slow down and learn things in a more detailed manner.

I agree! We have to respect people, and try to help them to overcome ther fears..maybe Feather isn't much safe then a Str8, but it helps some people to start in this shaving world.
But what ireally want to know, is about Feather Nape Razor! Anyone used it, or shaves with this particular razor? Feedbacks? Thx

I started out with a feather and a knock off feather disposable straight blade. The disposable straight blades were made by the same people as they both lasted the same amount of time and had the same performance. One cost significantly more than the other. Welcome to marketing 101.
I always advise newbies to just start out with the sides first and see if they like it. This way, they get the hang of making a lather and shaving with a straight without working the more challenging areas. Once they feel comfortable, then can add on a new section and take it at their pace.
Building on success keeps newbies motivated.
