I am new to this, but got a few razors already...
Hi there
As I said in the title, I am fairly new to straight razor shaving, just a few weeks and only in weekends, although just today was my first "middle of the week" shave, and not bad, less than 20 minutes and no cuts or nicks...
And I have managed to get a few razors already, my main razor is a Solingen no brand I got from Rasurpur (great service from Martin) together with the travelling strop:
But also got a Friodur, which I have used a couple of times already and can notice the difference with the Solingen carbon steel:
I also received last week what is basically a NOS J.A. Henckels, a NÂș60, which I need to send out for honing:
And also I have managed to get a couple of old razors, mainly to practice on how to sand and clean then, and may be I'll send them for honing if they are worth it, one is a Carl Rader:
and the other intrigues me, as it was advertised as a "Filarmonica Imperial", but I am not sure if "that" exists, although it does look good, have not received it yet:
Well that's it for now, I would love to get a Le grelot 1/4 and a bigger blade, a 7/8 or even 8/8, but that will need to wait, razor money is over for now!!!
Congrats on this very interesting forum and regards from Spain

Hi there! Wellcome to Str8 razor world! For honing since your are close to Portugal, Visit Leon (Bruno) website www.vintagescent.com theres a few Spanish NOS there, and a lot of other vintage products for shaving! My first shave was with a Filarmonica Barbas Duras round point 8/8..so smooth..honed by Leon! To restore razors you have got many advices and skilled people here to do it! Best of luck with shaving

Hello Mandrake. Welcome to SRP. I would say you are ready to start learning to hone your own. Send a couple out for honing and then look into getting some hones to be able to do it yourself. It gives one extreme satisfaction to know you sharpened it yourself. It is a valuable part of this hobby.

Welcome to SRP. Nice rotation you've got there in a short time. Be careful, the RAD ( razor acquisition disorder) is cunning, baffling, and powerful. Check out the SRP Wiki if you haven't already, there is a straight razor data base with lots of eye candy for razor lovers.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks guys! So far it's been great fun, and I do not discard honing, but not just yet...one day.
And what about the "Imperial" razor, with the eagle engraving, anyone has seen one like that? Could not find any info, although quite sure is not a Flliy....I will post more pics when I get it.

I dont know about it being a filly but it is a nice blade. Looks like it is in real good condition with just some patina on it. I would just clean that up a bit and get it honed instead of sanding on it if that was the blade you were gonna try to restore.
