Thanked: 2newbie trying to identify a razor
i picked up a razor at a antique store the other day and i am hoping you folks can tell me what i got and if its any good for shaving/collecting. On the blade itself is the following "Feinster Silber Stahl" and on the (tang?) handle it says "22 G.EDEL RAVENSBERG" On the back of the tang, it has a cool picture of a flying bird and a setting sun. anyone know what this is? Could it be a good shaver? any help would be greatly appreciated.

A few nice pictures would help. Someone may know just by the description, but actually seeing it would help tremendously!

Kind of hard to see the blade, but so far so good...
No obvious flaws like chips or mis-shaped edge. The blade has a nice overall shape and the edge looks smooth with a smile. Chances are it could easily be turned into a good shaver.
Is there any pitting on the blade? (Pitting near the spine ain't so bad, but pitting near the cutting edge usually means it will never shave comfortably again.)

"Feinster Silber Stahl" translates from German to "Finest Silver Steel" in
English
Ravensburg could refer to the town/district in the south-east of Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Ravensburg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravensburg_(district)
OR
It could be the couty of Ravensberg in present-day eastern Westphalia, Germany at the foot of the Osning or Teutoburg Forest.
County of Ravensberg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Unfortunately not really much help, but it's good to
know where razors were made.
22 may refer to a model number.
Hope this helps.Last edited by Caleb; 07-13-2009 at 07:35 AM.
