Thanked: 3795Sweeney Todd Razors
I have been offering free honing for a few months now. I ask people to describe their razors before I send mailing information primarily to weed out two types of razors that I don't want to hone, namely Japanese style razors with which I have no experience, and crap razors on the SRP "do not buy list."
I have just been asked to hone a Sweeney Todd razor. Now, I'm pretty sure that a $12 Sweeney Todd razor sold on a website that also sells Wolverine claws is probably not going to be a great shaver, but out of curiosity I'm still willing to hone it for free.
I'm wondering, has ANYONE bought a Sweeney Todd inspired razor that actually shaved even adequately? It's unfortunate that a movie (that I have not seen) so focused on straight razors could inspire so many people to buy crap razors that I would presume to guarantee that they will never consider using a straight razor ever again. Again I'll ask, has anyone encountered a Sweeney Todd razor that was functional?
I'm wondering if perhaps Sweeney Todd razors might be added to the Do Not Buy list?

I saw one on an internet page (maybe on a blog, or something- unfortunately i can't remember where), which was a vintage blade, reground, and rescaled with Sweeney Todd-like scales, and it was a functional one. Of course, it was not a 12$ razor!

I purchased one strictly for the purpose of giving to my nephew,(age9) to play barber with. I blunted the edge upon it's arrival so it would not be dangerous for him to play with. This one cost $13 shipping included. The scales looked flashy in the listing, but cheap on the razor. Certainly nothing I'd want to shave with.

I like the look of those razors but never thought of buying one ot shave with. I was trying to find a razor that had that shape blade but not nessicarily that dang long. i could shave my whole face in one swipe with that thing if it was curved right. Im pretty sure that the stel that it is made of is just a pot steel and almost certian that it hasent been hardened at all.

Ron, if you do decide to take this on(in the name of science of course) I would be sure to tell the owner that this is the only reason you are taking it and not to expect any positive results whatsoever.

So Ron, if I send you my sweet Wolverine claws, would you charge per pair, per claw, or per blade to hone them?
I'm a little strapped for cash but I really need these suckers sharp.

All is clear with the edge of Todd's razor.
But is it possible to make something interesting from scales?Alex Ts.

That might make a good back shaver for my brother. Assuming it could get sharp enough.
