I have and it does not have to, the blade is sharp enough and in the six monthes I have used it, nothing more than a good stropping had been needed and a touch up on the leather had been more than enough, the blue coating will not have any effect on the blade that is already sharp enough to shave with. I have had hess that have not held a edge as good as this razor has, believe what you want but I have used this razor and am as happy with it as any that I have owned and that count is around 25 or more as to the exact count, not quite sure any more. As for the Venus that is shown on the razor well it does not come that way, it is just a blue razor with no lettering on it at all.

Does not have to what? Have the "titanium coating" removed? Of course it does. Every photo of those razors on the Venus website show it to be removed.

    The company declares the following:

Yes, Titanium coated Straight Razor. How these razors are different from other razors? These razors have unique property that these are coated with thin film of Titanium metal. This BLUE Titanium film makes these razors completely rust free and increase sharpness of razors. These titanium coated razors are not only beautiful, also have superb working. Unlike other gold plated razors, titanium blue color is UN-REMOVABLE even after sharpening the razor on strop or stone.

Now if the company declares the blue color to be un-removable, yet it has clearly been removed at the edge, then I have a hard time trusting their claim. Also, given that they declare that the blue film increases the sharpness of the razors, I wonder why they didn't bother to leave the blue film on the edge of the blade? Sharpness only is a factor at the edge of the blade, which is the ONE place that this razor does NOT have the miraculous blue titanium film.

If you have only used this razor to shave the back of your wife's neck once a month for six months, then I hardly think that you have put this razor to much of a test either. Have you shaved yourself with it? I'd be more interested in how it shaved you, as the hair at the back of the neck is not much of a challenge.

As if I hadn't already beaten it to death, here is another thought...

Consider the stupid logic of their claim that the "titanium blue color is UN-REMOVABLE even after sharpening the razor on strop or stone." Sharpening on a stone is accomplished by the removal of steel from the edge. If the coating, and keep in mind it is only a coating, could not be removed, then the edge could not be sharpened.

This rookie is not buying their story.

There are a few razors out there that fall into the "Yes they can shave, but at the price point I would rather have a Dovo, TI, or Vintage razor" catagory...

BTW Utopian is dead on about the coating it does not stay on the edge, and the advertising is at best misleading and at worst a lie...

You could use such coatings to make it rust resistant in areas other than the edge and make the razor a different color, but you would hone through them and they wouldn't effect the edge.

Is this any different than calling pattern welded steel, "Damascus" steel.

Yes, because they are very specifically declaring that the titanium coating makes the blade sharper, when it clearly cannot because it does not exist at the edge.

Nice answer Ron, but I am still trying to figure out what the Damascus question had to do with the thread ??????
