Well, in the eBay ad he talks about the scissors being stainless, but I'd bet my left...leg...that the razor isn't. SS doesn't patina like that, does it?

A well known German collector lamented to me that the art of making the finest steel for straight razor blades has been lost. "The old blades are the best". I have noticed this myself in comparing early Bokers with late manufactured ones, such as 1970's vintage King Cutters. I have also read that modern production German straight razors are using old stockpiles of blanks to make them with. When they are gone, so will be the razor manufacturing industry, in my opinion, except for zeepk and the like . My two stainless Friodurs cannot compare with the comfort and closeness of an old carbon steel Sheffield or Solingen blade. None of the old masters are alive now. Just an opinion!

Dude, sorry but what is the sense of this. Most razors of this caliber are you get what you pay for. Even with the Wapi and DA and no matter how you dress them up, you get what you pay for. If you buy one and try it, you will know.

When I was in college, I always kept my straights in my own room. Had I had a roommate, I would have kept them locked up, too. Leaving them out is just asking for some sort of trouble, imo.

Hence cheap stainless steel. And the room has nothing to do with it... If I'm going to the shared bathroom, I won't bring it in the shower with me. Also, life isn't as cushy... so if I don't dry it right, or for some reason it got messy, or I forgot, or was impaired by adult sodas, or was fighting the resulting head blur of said adult sodas, etc etc etc. Plus.... two of our brothers break doors down when they get drunk soooooooooooooooooo
