Yep...i predict the hairs will be popping and flying all over the place, pretty soon. Looks like that straight is going to shave nicely.

    Thanks,

I got into St8s because i wanted to sharpen my honing skills. I am a luthier by night and a chemistry teacher by day. What i did not plan for is how much there is to learn. For example, on tehnique, I thought mine was getting real good until I watched a video yesterday that showed the barber leading with the point where I was leading with the heal deliberatly avoiding the toe lead.
On razors, I can not sell any of my razors because i have new favorites every other weak. Right now I am on a wedge roll, but half hollows were the cat's meaow before that. Full hollows dominated my favorite before that because back in those days my sharpening skills were not good enough for wedges to reach there potential. Maybe as my technique improves i will go back to hollows and brake out my dubl Duck again.
This affliction you know have will never get boring unless your brain is dead or more politely, you are one of those people much smarter than me and have already learned everything.
Oh, and as far as sharpening, I use to think shaving arm hair off my plane blades(now that is a far more expensive sickness, good planes go for lots of money) made me an expert on sharpening. Until the humble little razor made it's way into my head I only thought I knew what sharp was.
The best thing about this is a place for almost everyone to get into this, and as long as you have some self control, you can afford to do something that will fit your budget. One could make the argument that it could be more econmical than any other method or more luxurant at the other extreme. Many of the generous patrons of this forum list shave ready razors for sometimes less than 30 bucks. Puck of VDH soap at wall mart 1.54. If you want to start with a cheap brush, 5 bucks.
100 years ago, only aristocrats had seven day sets. These are the good old days, and if they are not we must believe that they will be soon.

I'd been hankering after a seven day set for a while,(I do like a good hanker)but now I think it's nice to have different makes and styles of blades instead of them being all the same.
I've only got my Flic and a Clauss so far and I'm waiting on my Genco so only another four and I'm all set.I never thought shaving could be so much fun.

Hankering is a very healthy and normal thing to do. That is an awsoming start. You could also do seven day sets by style, time period etc. The good thing about getting an eclectic collection will helpyou figure out what you like. Don,t be suprised if you end up changing your mind about what you think you would want today for your seven day set changes completly later on.
Yes shaving is fun. I look at pictures of myself in the years that I did not st8 shave and I always had a dirty half grown beard because I hated to shave. It has in some ways become my calm spot and I find the shave very satisfying each day. Wife loves my smooth face too
