I would argue that even a microtome is still a straight razor, even though it wasn't designed with beard shaving in mind

It is straight, and it is a razor, has a toe, a heel, a spine, an edge, and a handle the blade is meant to stay attached to

I believe these razors were manufactured as tools to cut or splice samples to view under microscopes etc. A super sharp edge was required for such a task.

I bid on one on the bay about 5 months ago made by the same company. I didnt win, but got a second chance offer as the winner didn't wish to purchase as its 'not for shaving.'

Interestingly one side was wedge, the other hollowed like a japanese type razor. Although not intended for shaving hair, i reckon it would blatantly make
a good shaver...if u use it please to a review!

    Regards

Here is an old thread describing honing and shaving with a microtome.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I agree and I bet it would be great for cutting up a chicken! I wonder if it was for amputation of limbs - next would be the bone saw???

    Looks familiar

Alex, the one you bought is a microtome. The one I posted is a later made example from AO ( American Optical)

The second picture is also a microtome but it has the bevel guide attached making it appear to be a frame back style razor.
