Thanked: 9New WACKER "DORKO" double edge?
I bought recently a new Wacker "Dorko" (nr 1051 of his catalogue) and it needs a little sharpening.
As it it hollowed so nicely I can't see if it is a double edge and thus the need of electric tape.
Can someone help me?
Thanks.

Thanked: 4942Have you shaved with it? How did you determine whether it is sharp? You can usually see a double bevel under a microscope if you have one. If you bought it new, I am not aware of John taping the spine when he hones his razors.

Thanked: 13249You might want to PM John, I was under the impression that he does use tape....
But as Lynn said already, are you sure it needs honing???
The other point for anyone else reading this, if a razor has been honed with a taped edge (1 layer) it really only takes about 20 laps on a Norton 4k (for comparison) to wipe that off the edge....

Thanked: 953John does NOT use tape (I think NEVER was the precise phrase he used). He's squarely in the "changes the geometry and that's bad" camp.
Whatever he does, he did a nice job honing the stainless weltmeister I bought from him. Good guy to shop from.

I would assume that he bought it directly from Wacker, as he's in Europe...or I think that's what "Northwest of Coticule" would mean...

It's a fine idea, which allows an edge to hold a good corner for a long time.
