    Default Cel-Rot for sale on Ebait

    Beware of the razors for sale on this auction. One of them is eaten up with celluloid rot and the others could also be affected.

    Saw that lot, and will be bidding on it. Yup, it appears to be cell rot... I sometimes collect these "odd" examples.

    Unfortunately most of the time you don't see it coming. You can usually smell it before you see it. The first thing you usually notice is corrosion on the blade where it sits down inside the scales but not up above them.

    This is some serious celluloid rot going on here. He needs to keep it away from heat - they really can start on fire when breaking down like this and exposed to too much heat. That is one reason many old movies don't exist any more. One of the film libraries had the celluloid combust and burned the film library down.
