Thanked: 190One of my disposable straight blades is 2.25 inches long and 1/2 inch in height and it certainly does have an advantage shaving over the 3" straight blades when shaving the neck and going ATG. It moves around with ease.
The 3" blades get the job done as well, but with more effort and more technique.. Overall, if the blade is sharp and your technique is good, you will get good shave whether its a 2" blade or a 3" blade.

Genco shorty
I made up a 2" razor from a Genco that had a nick in the toe. I use it for fishing trips. It isn't the best for shaving but it does the trick for camping out. It is small and compact and fits in my overnite kit. I picked up an inexpensive eyeglass case for a coffin.

I boguht 2 of the razors holli was talking about and I love em.
Never tried a longer blade but I could shape my side burns next to my eye brows with ease. And I could pick out tiny spots on my neck or under my nose easily.
Probably the same with all razors but it was a very enlightening venture for a first timer like me

I have a couple of razors that have been shortened. One is a 7/8 Filly I got thru Ebay at a fantastic price. Logistically you would think that a razor that, is a 2" or 2-1/4" in length would be great to shave those hard to get to places. Like the hollows on either side of the Adams apple, or under the jaw line, but, NO, it doesen't work that way. I can't explain this logically, but it just dosen't work! A shorter razor is not as good a shaver as you would think!
I absolunteny can't explain why not, but it won't shave as well as you would think!!!
I can't expain why! You will be dissapointed! Trust Me! (never trust anybody that says, "trust me!")

I think the primary indicator of whether you'd prefer a long or short blade is if you are clean-shaven or have some limited beard, like a goatee or a box beard that you have to maneuver around.
