I have a couple of razors that have been shortened. One is a 7/8 Filly I got thru Ebay at a fantastic price. Logistically you would think that a razor that, is a 2" or 2-1/4" in length would be great to shave those hard to get to places. Like the hollows on either side of the Adams apple, or under the jaw line, but, NO, it doesen't work that way. I can't explain this logically, but it just dosen't work! A shorter razor is not as good a shaver as you would think!

I absolunteny can't explain why not, but it won't shave as well as you would think!!!

I can't expain why! You will be dissapointed! Trust Me! (never trust anybody that says, "trust me!")

I believe you! Because I have the same experience. Why would most razors be 3" if that was actually too long? The razormakers got it right, many years ago.

I think the primary indicator of whether you'd prefer a long or short blade is if you are clean-shaven or have some limited beard, like a goatee or a box beard that you have to maneuver around.
