Just as a note here from a Mod

You guys realize that you are answering questions from over 4 years ago right ???? I would hope that they have made their decisions long ago...

Nothing wrong with digging out old threads to find answers and ask questions, we like that on SRP

This is a great write up, you saved me the time of going to the store.
I'm still researching for my razor and start up kit. Thanks for the very useful information.

Good point Glen. I was going to suggest a couple places to go to my fellow Edmontonian until I realized those shops didn't exist 4 years ago

Yup, I would sure hope that he found something since then lol

I just came back from the art of shaving store. A little to fancy for me. I asked to see there straight razors and they didn't have any? They said they wouldn't have for awhile, all sold out. Odd
I guess I will stick to online.

Thanks for the feedback about the Art of Shaving stores. I checked and there are about a half dozen of them here. I'll check them out.

If you are still looking I bought my first straight at a large cutlery store in a mall in Florida. Decent selections. A lot of Soligens that I can remember. I picked up a Merkur. Decent little shaver once the bevel was set.

This store carries mostly knives and kitchen specialty items. Very interesting to browse through.
