Thanked: 20Great Forum
Hello all. Recently, I was turned onto this forum by an KF member and am now dieing to try a straight razor. Any suggestions on something inexpensive yet decent in performance would be greatly appreciated. Though knife nut and all around wood worker (love to sharpen and have razor sharp tools) the idea of an SR had never been a practical one due to being deployed or training, until recently. (5 years of active duty Army as a medic, 27months deployed)
As I said before, I would love to give it a go. As my handle suggests, I am quite partial to carbon steel but would not mind an SS at all. Sharp or dull isn't an issue either since I have a respectable waterstone collection. Anyway, thank you for any suggestions.
Respectfully,
Mike (combatd928 over in KF)
By the way, as to my thread title... you all have a very nice forum here. It is very informative and warm. Also, everyone has been very respectful and encouraging. ( this in reference to a brush handle post )Last edited by Carbonsteel928; 08-19-2009 at 02:31 PM.

First thank you for your service.
Second, the wiki has suggestions for razors to stay away from.
Third, there are a lot of inexpensive razors in the classifieds that are already sharp so no need to hone.
Fourth I think you and JimmyHAD need to get together and see who has more stones.
Welcome.

Thanked: 20I'm sure jimmy has me beat, I have only 15 stones but not for lack of trying. I use the scary sharp system for my shop tools so I have to devide my money in two directions. I've also picked up the bad habit of collecting strops... well mostly from Hand Amercia. :-)

LOL, when I grow up and get as many as Randy and Utopian I'll quit. Glad to have another stone & hone lover here. You're in the right place.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 20Glad to see you DC. I'm doing great, but dreading my finances... between kitchen knives, turning (wood gets more expensive everyday), dogs, and now razors ... I may need to get a few more jobs to afford it all. That, or sell a kidney and a few other not so vital organs. It bets waiting on winning the lotto.
