Henkel or Henckels
Is there a difference in the brand names J. A. Henkels and The Henkel Co. of Fremont, O? Did Henkels make the Fremont razor? If not, who made the Henkel Co. razor? Thanks for your attention to this.

I'm pretty certain they're entirely different, but that's all i can say. Sorry!

I think it's The Henkle Co. Fremont Ohio (1906-1919). Today the name of this company is Henkle-Clauss, due to a merger between Clauss and Henkle in 1919.Alex Ts.

The razor reads " THE HENKEL CO " (first line), " FREMONT, O. U.S.A." (second line). You could be right about the company transition, it makes sense. But the spelling that I listed is accurate as I am looking at a clear picture of the printing on the razor itself. Perhaps a "spelling of the company name" change? Thanks for your input.

Hmm... It's really very interesting. Three different sources - two different names.
Standard Guide, Straigh Razor Collecting - Henkel,
Goins' Enc. - Henkle.
But in the description the same company (Fremont Ohio, 1906-1919).Last edited by manah; 08-26-2009 at 03:09 AM.

Could it be a reseller? Like a US outlet for Henckels products? Is there a twin trademark stamped anywhere?

J. A. Henkels and Henkel (Henkle) are different companies with different founders and owners.

Thanked: 0I own one as well, "The Henkel CO, Fremont O. USA". It was my grandfathers and likely preceded him by a bit as the company merged with Clauss (sp?) in 1919 or 1916 as a previous poster noted. In spite of an edge that was initially rough and slightly warped, it has become a very good shaver...with of course some judicious honing and care. I'm somewhat curious regarding the history of this company, and any information regarding differences in stampings etc.. I've noticed at least one other stamping of the company name, in addition to the one photographed for this thread. I assume that the earlier manufacture would be the one depicted, while the later would be the one I've seen elsewhere...but it's only an assumption. Any one with more insight?
