Thanked: 0WM Morley razor
So, I just decided to buy a morley bros razor because it's my great grandfathers company.
that said, I still want an no bs opinion.
how is it for shaving?
should I get it honed and add it to my rotation or should I just polish it up and never let it anywhere near my face?
if you say it sucks I won't be offended, everyone makes crappy products now and then.
Thanks,
Martin

I think it's W.H. Morley. If you have any old artifacts or info about them, please post about it. I have one Morley that I won in an auction and recently had it restored by Max. It shaves as good as it looks:
There's a razor club for Morley owners as well:

Your great-grandfather made some sweet blades!

As Commicat said, really good blades if it's W.H Morleys "clover" brand!
Very hard steel, keeps a very sharp edge a long time.

Every W.H Morley I've come across and honed all turned out to be stellar shavers. Most are gorgeous to boot. Commiecat's included

Thanked: 0yeah, I never really listened when my mom told me family history and now that I'm old enough to understand my mom's too busy and my grandmother doesn't remember.
all I know is that they're from saginaw, they made really nice hatchets, and there were like three sons and one daughter and his name was william and so was one of his sons.
and his daughter was charlotte.
how's that for random?

Max,
Every time I see that razor, I think I need one that looks that, well...classy. I have some sweet looking sweet shaving blades. Made or restored by nearly every big name in the game, resto and custom...but that one, yummy. I'll have to stop in to see you if I wind up going to UFC 106 in November.
Yeah, get one of great grandad's razors, and have it sent to Max for "the treatment."Last edited by smokelaw1; 08-28-2009 at 07:32 PM.

The W. H. Morley & Sons had operations in New York, Austria, and Germany from 1913 - 1927. Goins' Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings (1998)
All the Morleys I have ever had pass my way were excellent razors, (XLNT and Clover Brand).
I bought the book!

Thanked: 45W.M. Morley appears to be an unrelated company from the one started by your great grandfather. According to Goins' Encyclopedia there is a company called Morley Bros. that was started in 1863 when George W. and Edward W. Morley moved to Saginaw, Michigan from Ohio. They were a hardware wholesaler.

W.H. Morley's are fantastic. One of my favorites thus far 7 months into straight shaving.
I'm a sucker for a stamped tail. Giggity.
