Engels Wedge?
A quick search of the forum provides no entries for the "Engels Wedge"
I just missed buying one on the bay Engel's Wedge Straight Razor Solingen Germany - eBay (item 370249311128 end time Aug-30-09 07:48:12 PDT) and thought it would be interesting to see if other people had experience with it. From what it looks like it was 4/8s-ish, close to wedge, and made in Solingen. *quickly check my sig line* Oh wait thats what I'm looking for! Why didn't I bid more?
Anyways... anyone know how they handle on the face? I'm thinking I might go hunt one down...

lol yeah I love my German shavers, I have very little attraction to American blades (except they are usually a little cheaper, but not much these days) and I like the English blades only for nostalgia. Solingen is always a good bet, I'm just looking for some info, because some Solingens are far over rated (not because they are bad, but because of diminishing marginal returns), while others are hidden gems.

I think every WELL MADE- ie vintage- razor is a superior shaver whether it be from the US, England, Germany, Sweden, France, etc.... I just like the Solingens. Dunno why but I do. I like the big Sheffields, they feel good to shave with, its just for everyday use they're so- I dunno. They're more of a weekend luxury for me.

I once read that Memphis Minnie never made a record that wasn't good. I would say the same about FWE razors. I think I have an FWE wedge. I will have to check when I get home from work.

Here is the Engels Wedge I mentioned. It had belonged to a fellow who had been a barber in NY and twenty years after he passed away his son, by then an old man himself, sold his late father's razors and hones on ebay.
I got the wedge and a coticule out of the numerous items. The razor came to me and I tried it above the hair on my forearm and it popped hair nicely. I stropped and shaved. Haven't shaved with it since that first time but I remember it being real nice.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 363Interesting.
As the founder of the Singing Engels..club... I have to say this is truly a find.I have never seen an Engels wedge, most I have seen are the models entitled:
JimyHad. Do you mind posting a pic to the Singing Engels razor club... love to see this addition.
All of the Engels I have are extremely smooth shavers.
Leader
Special
I have one that was part of a seven day set, entitled " LUCKY."
Cheers

D, here it is in the club thread. I have an Engels "Warren 28" in the original scales and I will post a photo of that to the club too in the next day or so. I am using a 1st generation Sony Mavica and my Linux distro is fussy about recognizing the floppy drive so I have to do back flips to post pics (sigh)
I also have a couple of Leaders and a Special but those are adequately represented in the club thread I think. BTW, I've never met an Engels that wasn't a great razor.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
