Thanked: 2591W&B dating Question
I have a few W&B razors that I am going to restore eventually.
I am not sure how to date them, they have different engravings on the shanks. I know there was a thread with all the markings and dates, but I can't find it.
I'd appreciate if someone can link me to that thread, or the source.
Thanks.Stefan

Thanked: 20Stefan, I'm glad you asked since I found 4 W&B's and would also like to get an approximation on their age.

No dinner necessary, I've already eaten. I'll have a drink though.... here is something to go with.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Some Wade & Butchers have Manufactured by Wade & Butcher
Sheffield
others have Manufactured by Wade & Butcher
Sheffield England
Those with the absence of England on their tang were made prior to either 1875 or 1890 (one of the two I cant remember exactly).
The reason behind this was that after 1890 taxation law changed and many were exported overseas to the US market and the country of origin had to be stated.
Other than that Im not sure how to date them, but I believe the smaller more hollow grinds are more modern than most of the wedge types.Last edited by Scipio; 09-13-2009 at 03:06 PM.
