Thread: What is your sharpest shaver?

My sharpest are both Wade & Butcher 8/8s, one a full-hollow grind, though not a singing blade; the other is a full wedge, a heavy chunk of metal that the rivet is unable to hold still as I strop it. Both have given me butter-smooth shaves. A close second is my Hamburg Gotta 6/8. I just seem to love Sheffield steel.

My Robert Williams custom is my sharpest blade. Perhaps this is because I have spent more time tuning it in. I think that really any razor can be your sharpest if you have spent some time fine tuning it. Sometimes this has little to do with sharpness. I can finish a blade on 25 micron diamond paste and it will pass the hanging hair test everywhere along the blade. However, most times I will have to take it back to CrO to smooth out the feel of the blade on my face.

Thanked: 326Iwasaki hands down is my sharpest shaver. If my house was on fire I'd grab only that and leave the rest behind.

I guess it would probably be my DOVO Bismarck at the moment. Its a 6/8 full hollow grind or carbon steel and I finished it on my 16k Shapton and then 0.5 diamond spray on a denim flatbed hone.
That may change though as I've recently got a Wacker Antik 15/16 that I'm tweaking at the moment! Its nearly there but I reckon the edge could use a little more refinement to get it to that sweet spot for me..! I'll let you know..!

I finially have about twenty razors to compare and give an adequate sharpness comparison. I have honed all personally and shaved direct from an 8K norton, so all have the same finish.
Going on sharpness alone, I have to go with my Henckels 50 1/2 4/8 spike with a real slight smile. If I ever feel that I am not getting the closest possible shave, this Henckels will definitely do it every time. Running a very close second has to be my wedge and quarter hollow Wackers. Made of silver steel they are very hard and most definitely my favorite shavers. I recently aquired a C12K and am anxious to see what kind of edge it will provide.

My sharpest shaver is a W.H. Morley & Sons Clover Brand. 5\8, full-hollow. I'm assuming carbon.
I'm not sure what it was finished on Holli honed it for me.
By the way, by sharp, I mean a nice close comfortable shave with little effort.Last edited by Miner123; 01-04-2010 at 05:57 PM. Reason: clarification

My sharpest razor is an Electric Cutlery, Newark NJ 4/8. It was honed on a coticule and finished with CroOx. My second sharpest is a Solingen; Greis & Co. Best Cross 6/8, also honed on the coticule and finished with CroOx. Interestingly, I got no improvement in sharpness from the Escher, when I acquired one.
