Thanked: 3Looking for a full wedge or a 1/4
I am still new to the world of straight razors. My first straight shave was 7-29-09 and I started with a Genco, 5/8 full hollow square point.
I have done well (I consider one or two smallish/small sized scratches or nicks well at this point. )and think I would like to try something closer to a full wedge of a 1/4.
I looked at the grinds link : grinds
Then headed to the classifieds. From what I can tell anything close to what I want is on the pricey side (discovering straight shaving in grad school is not a good thing ).
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanked: 1374/8 W-K Wedge - Edward Weeden, Chicago - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
Lee's a great guy, and definitely knows how to get a blade shave-ready, which is ideal for a rookie! Plus you'd be hard-pressed to argue with $35, incl shipping anywhere. Sure, 4/8 is small, but I learnt to shave with a small blade, and still do - the small size makes it more maneouvrable (sp? gawd I hate French words!) and you can get a pretty darn smooth shave from being able to maneouvre it into all the tricky spots and get those angles perfect.

Posting a WTB would probably be a good idea (not sure if threads like this are allowed...), and surfing the classifieds works too.

A 4/8's wedgy blade shaves so smooth and nimble. Its rough on the strop though- very narrow.

Try to find a Wapienica (Wapi), which has a near-wedge blade. If you want to spend a bit more, look for a Wacker full wedge or 1/4, they are supposed to be good or one of the older ones, such as a nice W&B wedge or similar. I am sure there are more brands making good wedges or 1/4 hollows, the ones above are just those coming to my mind right now.
