    Default Tosuke first timer

I am a straight shaving newbie and really enjoying it. I recently bought a Tosuke razor after reading about them in the forums, but I have been reluctant to try it because I read somewhere that they don't come shave ready and I wanted to send it off to get honed before using it. Also I am just learning how to use a straight, and thought it would be best to stick to my Dovo for now. Anyways, I was feeling a little brave this evening so I gave it a good go on my barber's hone (which is all I have), stropped it and gave it a try.
The feeling of the razor was amazing. I know it's not as sharp as it can be, but it felt amazingly smooth against my skin. It felt sharper than my professionally honed Dovo, and gave me a closer shave. Spots I have had a tough time getting before were easy to shave. It was the best shave I've had so far, and now I can't wait to get it honed to it's true potential. Awesome razor.

Because it has an asymmetrical profile they can tailor make the razor to give the best possible shave. That's why it can shave closer than a typical western straight.

I've found that the kamisori give me the best shaves, as well. Love 'em. I'm contemplating going kamisori-only...but of course, what would I do with all the other lovelies in the den?

Question: if you got a fantastic shave, why send it out to be honed? Seems like it's shave ready to me...

If you already honed it why bother sending it out?

I don't know, I guess I'm kinda curious how good it can be. Also, I did experience some razor burn, but maybe it was from my inexperience or just from cutting so close.

you're not alone I experienced the same with Livi J-spec inspired razor. However the Iwasaki didn't give me any trouble whatsoever. Weird huh?
